My client is looking for a Design Manager that will lead the delivery of high-quality, technically compliant engineering solutions across water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects. This role oversees multi-disciplinary teams and design consultants, ensuring all designs are robust, safe, cost-effective, and delivered on time and within budget.
Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of technical design solutions across water, wastewater, and infrastructure project and ensure all designs meet statutory, regulatory, and client standards
*
Provide concept, outline, and detailed design for pipelines, sewers, pumping stations, and treatment processes
*
Manage external design consultants and ensure contractual duties are met and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams
*
Oversee development of robust, operable, and maintainable asset designs
*
Review, validate, and approve drawings, calculations, and specifications
*
Support and monitor project teams with technical input and design decisions
*
Manage design budgets and resource allocations
*
Implement design change control procedures
*
Identify design risks and opportunities
*
Support engagement of specialist suppliers and technical partners
*
Collaborate with operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders
*
Provide oversight for temporary works requirements and design coordination
Essential
*
Minimum 10 years’ experience in design and design management
*
Strong background in foul water drainage and potable water mains
*
Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent
*
Membership of a recognised engineering institution (or working toward IEng/CEng)
*
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
*
Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams
*
Proven ability to interrogate and challenge design information
*
Strong time management and organisational skills
*
Ability to deliver high-quality design outputs to deadlines

Experience working within large infrastructure programmes

Knowledge of BIM and common data environments

Understanding of temporary works processes and responsibilities
