Role Overview
As a Placement Year Student you will be tasked with real‑world projects from day one, contributing to safety‑critical systems, rapid prototyping, design of power and protection systems, and research into advanced defence and energy solutions.
Responsibilities
* Design and delivery of electrical systems at Hinkley Point C Power Station.
* Development of safety‑critical control systems for next‑generation power generation (e.g., nuclear, wind, fusion).
* Concept electrical system design for UKAEA’s next‑generation spherical tokamak.
* Research into reliability of programmable protection systems.
* Development of hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing systems for obsolescence support.
* Design of radiological protection systems for European Spallation Source.
* Upgrade UK dockyard electrical systems for next‑generation ships and submarines.
* Design a new 11 kV power system for decommissioning a nuclear power plant over 60 years.
* Research and development of novel military command and control systems.

Qualifications
* Problem solver with technical initiative and ownership.
* Team player capable of collaborating across technical backgrounds.
* Self‑starter who delivers tasks to client, project, or team impact.
* Communicator able to explain outcomes to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Ontrack for a 2:1 degree or higher in Engineering, Electrical or Electronics (or equivalent).
* Selected candidates will undergo pre‑employment screening and UK National Security Vetting clearance.
