Job Description
I’m working with a leading UK subcontractor specialising in the installation and maintenance of passive fire protection, thermal insulation, and acoustic barrier systems across the construction industry.They support major Contractors on new build and refurbishment projects, as well as social housing providers on planned and reactive maintenance works.
The business is now looking to hire an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Plymouth. This role would suit someone with some existing QS experience—either with a contractor or subcontractor—who is looking to grow their commercial skills further and be trained in a highly specialised, in-demand discipline.
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the commercial team in ensuring the successful delivery of projects from tender stage through to final accounts.Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
* Assisting with the review of tender documentation and identification of project requirements and risks
* Helping produce schedules of works, budgets, and Bills of Quantities
* Supporting the commercial management of live projects, ensuring accurate reporting and cost tracking
* Attending site visits (with most work based in the Plymouth office)
* Supporting the preparation of valuations, variations, and final accounts
* Working closely with operational teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure smooth project
For this role the client is seeking
* Some experience in a QS or Assistant QS role (contractor or subcontractor background ideal)
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
* Strong IT skills, particularly Excel, Word, and other project-reporting tools
* A good commercial understanding and an awareness of project lifecycles
