We're working with a well-established UK insurance business to appoint a Property Underwriter into a newly created, growing team within an established business unit. This is an opportunity to join a team from the ground up, shape how it operates, and have direct influence over complex, non-standard property risks.
If you're an experienced insurance professional who enjoys exercising technical judgement and wants a role where your expertise is genuinely valued, this role is worth exploring.
Why this role could be right for you
* You'll be a key Property Underwriter in a team handling complex, non-standard property insurance risks, rather than routine or commoditised business.
* The role gives you autonomy: you'll assess, agree, and sign off on risks that require technical expertise and judgement.
* You'll work with brokers and delegated underwriting partners, influencing appetite, structure, and risk acceptance.
* Competitive pay, dependable annual bonuses linked to business performance, and a strong pension scheme.
* Low staff turnover and a culture that supports long-term careers.
* The chance to shape a new team and its processes, leaving a lasting mark on how the business operates.
What you'll be doing day to day
* Underwriting a portfolio of property insurance risks, focusing on non-standard, complex risks.
* Acting as a senior referral point within the team, providing guidance and decisions on challenging cases.
* Applying technical knowledge to coverage, pricing, terms, and risk selection, ensuring business remains profitable.
* Reviewing delegated authority arrangements, monitoring performance, and supporting the development of partnerships.
* Tracking portfolio performance, including retention, claims, and pricing, and recommending adjustments as needed.
* Contributing to product oversight, including policy wordings, coverage changes, and technical standards.
* Supporting colleagues by sharing knowledge and training, helping maintain consistent underwriting quality.
* Leading or contributing to short-term projects aimed at improving processes, systems, or team capability.
Who this will suit
* A Property Underwriter or senior property-focused underwriter with experience in an insurer or broker.
* Strong technical knowledge of UK commercial property insurance.
* Comfortable taking responsibility for complex or unusual risks.
* Experienced in working with delegated authority arrangements.
* A measured, risk-aware approach - prioritising sustainable decisions over volume.
* ACII or equivalent is welcome, but not essential.
Location and working pattern
Office-based, with flexibility, in a location commutable from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Alcester, Evesham, Redditch, Banbury and surrounding towns. The business offers practical, sensible working patterns suitable for experienced insurance professionals.
What's in it for you
* A role that respects and uses your experience.
* Exposure to technically interesting, non-routine insurance risks.
* A new team within a stable, growing business unit, offering influence and career progression.
* Competitive remuneration, reliable bonuses, and strong benefits.
* A working environment built for longevity, expertise, and professional development.
