Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $111,850.00
Overview
The Hospitality Operations Manager is responsible for supporting assigned unit(s) in a zone of dining halls at Yale University. A key point of contact for the General Manager and reporting to the Managing Director of Operations, this position supports a team of 25 to 30 unionized staff and accomplished chefs who work to create three meals a day for students, faculty, and staff of the Yale community. This position supervises during meal hours, ensuring food quality, preparation, set up, taste, portioning, and cleanliness of the dining hall are maintained to the highest standards.
Required Skills And Abilities
* Exceptional communication skills to interact effectively with Heads of College, Deans, and all other university constituents.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and train a diverse staff. Proven experience managing bargaining unit employees. Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Proficiency with food service management systems or similar recipe/menu management systems, database management, Microsoft Office, internet, and email.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Plan, organize, and manage operations within Yale Hospitality, including residential student meals, executive dining, cafes, and conference services.
2. Support the design, development, and creation of quality experiences in areas like setup, decoration, linen, props, and other aspects, as well as daily service, special events, and catered functions.
3. Assist with menu forecasting standards.
4. Ensure high customer service standards by developing and overseeing service policies, quality assurance, staff training, food handling, and sanitation standards.
5. Conduct regular inspections and evaluations of service, station appearance, cleanliness, sanitation, and employee uniform compliance.
6. Gather guest feedback through surveys and direct interactions to improve service.
7. Implement and monitor housekeeping, safety, and sanitation rules.
8. Build strong relationships with university stakeholders including Heads of Colleges, faculty, administration, and students.
9. Supervise service areas during meal times and events.
10. Monitor financial performance by reviewing revenue and expenses, and prepare operational reports with recommendations.
11. Manage payroll, staff scheduling, and attendance.
12. Support inventory control and procurement processes.
13. Conduct staff interviews, training, evaluations, and maintain positive employee relations.
14. Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education And Experience
Bachelor's degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management or a related field, along with 4 years of relevant Service Management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
ServSafe Certified and Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
Sustained standing; frequent bending; ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds without assistance; ability to carry supplies up or down stairs.
