Job Description:
Role Summary
We are looking for a new consultant colleague to join our team in Acute Medicine at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH). You will be joining a team of forward-thinking doctors in a dynamic trust, able to effect changes in our service.
As a consultant group, we mostly have young families and promote part-time working and diverse portfolios to make our jobs balanced and sustainable. There are 9 Acute Medical Consultants working within the department, including 5 dual specialists in Endocrine, Gastroenterology, and Renal. Our special interests are broad, including Perioperative Medicine, Primary Care, Palliative Care, Education, Leadership, and high dependency care.
Our Acute medicine department is dynamic and embraces practice changes quickly, recognized through benchmarking and standards evaluation. The service is divided into areas like SDEC, Frailty SDEC, Ambulatory Care, Acute Hospital at Home, and AMU. This post is part of an expansion to increase SDEC capacity and create a dedicated HDU in the AMU, with new estates development underway. We aim to expand in Research, Quality Improvement, Digital Health, and Ultrasound, with support in job plans.
Exeter AMU has seen significant recent investment. It is a medium-sized unit with monitored beds and trolley spaces, including advanced facilities like 6 SDEC rooms, ambulatory cardiac bays, and a dedicated triage area. Our services support community discharges through the Acute Hospital at Home team. We offer point-of-care ultrasound, rapid diagnostics, and innovative remote monitoring, recognized with Digital Health grants and HSJ awards nominations. The department includes 6 registrars, resident doctors, and developing AP/PA workforce.
Exeter is a vibrant place to live, near national parks and the Devon coastline. Outdoor activities include surfing, biking, kayaking, and hiking. The city is highly desirable, with excellent transport links, a local airport, good schools, and family-oriented activities.
We are committed to workable job plans, recognizing the challenges of Acute Medicine. The RD&E offers many non-clinical opportunities, which we are happy to discuss.
