Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer
Permanent | Office-Based with Occasional Travel
We’re recruiting an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team working on technically complex, regulated products used across infrastructure and rail-related applications.
This role would suit a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks capability and experience designing products that interface with electrical systems, where standards, safety, and manufacturability matter.
-----------------------------------
The Role
You’ll be involved in the full product lifecycle, from early concept and feasibility through to production support, working closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
* Mechanical and electro-mechanical design of engineered products and assemblies
* Producing 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks)
* Supporting new product introduction (NPI) from concept to production
* Applying DFM/DFA and robust design principles (DFMEA, risk assessments)
* Supporting manufacturing, build, and production queries
* Ensuring designs meet relevant engineering standards and quality procedures
* Assisting with technical investigations and customer-related issues
* Occasional site visits for meetings or investigations (UK / limited international)
-----------------------------------
What We’re Looking For
* Background as a Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer
* Strong experience using SolidWorks
* Good mechanical engineering fundamentals and materials knowledge
* Experience designing products for manufacture and assembly
* Exposure to electrically influenced products (e.g. HV/LV, rail, infrastructure, defence, industrial systems)
* Understanding of engineering standards and compliance
* Comfortable working across design, production, and supplier interfaces
Qualifications
* HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
* Degree qualified engineers also encouraged to apply
-----------------------------------
Desirable (Not Essential)
* Experience with low or medium voltage equipment
* Rail or infrastructure project exposure
* Knowledge of interlocks, enclosures, or electrically sensitive assemblies
* Awareness of IEC / BS EN standards
-----------------------------------
Why Apply?
* Technically interesting, non-routine design work
* Opportunity to work on regulated, real-world engineering products
* Long-term, permanent role with development potential
* Supportive engineering environment with real ownership.
