Responsibilities
1. Interview patients or their representatives to gather required information for registration in the hospital information system, ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity.
2. Coordinate and communicate registration, admission, and pre-admission activities with various hospital departments to support accurate and safe patient care.
3. Maintain organized files and records related to orders, payer authorizations, schedules, and other departmental procedures.
4. Contact patients, employers, insurers, and representatives to obtain insurance information, verify benefits, and secure pre-authorizations to maximize hospital reimbursement.
5. Verify benefits using insurance verification systems, obtain referrals and authorizations, and document all information accurately in the system.
6. Stay informed of departmental policies to ensure maximum reimbursement.
7. Attend departmental meetings as required.
8. Ensure timely placement of patients, process admissions, discharges, and transfers per procedures.
9. Explain and process payments, including estimates, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles.
10. Follow procedures for securing payment information and providing receipts.
11. Provide information on relevant forms and issues, referring to Financial Counselors when appropriate.
12. Deliver excellent service to patients, families, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
13. Check in and transcribe orders in the HIS system.
14. Schedule patient visits as needed.
15. Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a high school graduate level.
* Typing speed of at least 25 WPM demonstrated via timed test.
* Proficiency in computer skills for accurate and efficient job performance.
* Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course within the last five years or passing a Medical Terminology challenge exam.
* Ability to work independently and handle pressure effectively.
Position Purpose
To obtain accurate patient information, enter data into the HIS system, and verify payer details, ensuring expedient care and accurate billing while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
Schedule Details
Temporary (up to 6 months), 40 hours/week, Rotating Days/Eves, 9 am-5 pm, No weekends or holidays.
