Income Officer Location: East Midlands Pay: Competitive Contract: Full-time, Temporary Start Date: ASAP We are currently supporting a local authority in the East Midlands that is looking for an experienced Income Officer to join their housing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies while maximising rental income for the authority. The Role As an Income Officer, your main responsibilities will include: Managing a caseload of tenants to ensure timely rent collection and reduce arrears. Taking early, proactive steps to prevent arrears, offering advice and support tailored to each tenant's circumstances. Supporting tenants with financial advice, including benefits (such as Universal Credit) and budgeting. Creating affordable repayment plans and monitoring their progress. Taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary, including issuing notices and preparing for legal proceedings. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies (e.g., Housing Benefits, DWP, financial inclusion services). Promoting tenancy sustainment through prevention and early intervention approaches. Keeping accurate, up-to-date records of all tenant contact and actions taken. Contributing to income performance reporting and providing updates on complex cases. About You To be successful in this role, you will need: Previous experience in rent income collection, housing management, or financial support roles. Good knowledge of income recovery processes, housing legislation, and welfare reform (particularly Universal Credit). Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a supportive and customer-focused approach. Confidence managing challenging situations and discussing sensitive financial issues. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. IT proficiency and experience using housing management systems.
