The Opportunity
As a Strategic Sourcing Buyer, you will play a key role in developing and delivering procurement strategies across assigned commodity areas. You will be responsible for building resilient supplier networks, driving supplier performance, improving cost efficiencies, and ensuring continuity of supply within a complex engineering environment.
This position would suit an experienced procurement professional with a strong strategic sourcing background gained within manufacturing, engineering, or other technical industries.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement category strategies aligned with wider business objectives
* Manage and optimise supplier relationships and supplier performance
* Establish long-term agreements and supply continuity plans
* Drive supplier onboarding and supplier rationalisation activities
* Lead cost reduction and value engineering initiatives across the supply base
* Secure supplier capacity through forecasting, planning, and contractual agreements
* Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer Service teams
* Support business continuity and supply chain risk mitigation strategies
* Ensure suppliers meet regulatory, ethical, and environmental compliance standards
* Facilitate early supplier involvement in new product and technology projects
What We're Looking For
* Minimum 10 years' procurement experience within manufacturing or engineering
* Previous experience in a strategic sourcing or category management role
* CIPS Level 4 qualified (or equivalent)
* Strong understanding of supply chain strategy, cost analysis, and supplier management
* Ability to read and understand technical drawings
* Experience negotiating long-term supplier agreements
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
* Strong commercial awareness and analytical capability
