Springwell Medical Centre is a large practice with just over 11,400 patients. We have a large multi disciplinary team and looking to recruit two Patient Care Advisors to join our friendly, hard working team in providing care to the community of Gorgie and the surrounding areas.

After consultations with admin staff, we have been able to make positive changes, including changing from a 5 day week to 4. This was greatly welcomed to establish a better work home life balance. Due to these changes we are now looking to add 2 new members of staff to our hard working, friendly and bubbly team.

Both vacancies are 20.5 hours over 4 days per week. The hours required are:

Vacancy 1 - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 13.30-18.00 and Friday 11.00-18.00. (Wednesday off)

Vacancy 2 - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 13.30-18.00 and Friday 11.00-18.00 (Monday off)

The role of Patient Care Advisor has replaced the traditional Medical Receptionist title as over the years the role has changed significantly. Some of the tasks the Patient Care Advisors undertake are: Dealing with patients and other health professionals both face to face and by telephone, managing appointment diaries, electronic filing and workflow, generating repeat prescriptions, registering new patients, patient transfers, signposting plus many more administrative tasks. The role is very fast paced and no two days are the same.

The successful candidates must be able to work independently but also as part of a team in a busy environment. They must be able to support colleagues and patients and communicate clearly and compassionately and have an excellent telephone manner. It is expected that the candidates are computer literate, of a friendly and calm nature and act with the utmost professionalism at all times. Patient care, confidentiality and professionalism are vital in General Practice.

Previous experience in General Practice is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

The admin team consists of; 9 Patient Care Advisors (including these two vacancies), 2 Clinical Administrators, 1 Record Summariser and a Management Assistant.

We are an Independent Practice using Outlook, Vision, Docman, Excel, Word, Rat and many other applications. We have the benefit of free on site parking with excellent public transport links and are within walking distance to Haymarket train station and Edinburgh City Centre.
