Head of Group Capital (Maternity Cover, 12–15 months) Lead the development of market-leading capital modelling and management strategies for NFU Mutual Group. Influence strategic decisions at Board level and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the business. Hybrid role with up to 80% homeworking and 20% in Stratford-upon-Avon About the roleThis is a unique opportunity to join NFU Mutual as Head of Group Capital on a 12–15 month maternity cover Fixed Term Contract. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the Group’s capital modelling and management strategies, ensuring robust compliance with regulatory standards and driving business resilience. Reporting to the Head of Financial Risk & Prudential Governance, you will provide strategic leadership and expert guidance at the heart of our financial risk function. You’ll lead a team of 10 actuaries and trainees, providing technical guidance, fostering professional growth, and maintaining high standards across the function. Develop and maintain parameters and calibrations for the Group’s capital models, aligned with our regulatory-approved Internal Model. Lead the design and delivery of financial models to project the Solvency position of the General Insurance fund and Group balance sheet. Set and oversee the Group’s Internal Model strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective reporting to the regulator, Board, and risk committees. Advise on risk capital implications for asset allocation, supporting the Investment Function within agreed risk appetites. Manage responses to PRA queries, defending our position while minimising capital impact. Provide expert advice to the Chief Risk Officer and Board on distribution strategies for excess working capital. Stay informed of industry developments to ensure NFU Mutual remains aligned with best practice. Build strong relationships across the business, including Investment Office, Fund Management, Underwriting, Pricing, and Claims. Lead and develop your team, promoting a culture of autonomy, engagement, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with wider business areas to embed capital management across the Group. About youWe are seeking a confident, collaborative leader with a passion for capital management and strategic influence. You will bring: In-depth knowledge of general insurance capital management. Strong understanding of reserving rules and capital requirements for GI business. Proven experience in identifying and assessing financial risks, including uncertainty analysis and risk interactions. Experience with Igloo modelling tools (desirable). Ability to influence senior stakeholders, including at Board level. Demonstrable leadership experience, with a track record of delivering results through teams. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly. Sound judgement and decision-making capabilities. Qualifications & Experience Professionally qualified with FFA or FIA (essential). Relevant degree (e.g., Maths, Science, Economics) or equivalent experience. Significant experience in capital management, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement within the insurance or financial services sector.
