Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine – Dual or Single Specialty

The closing date is 30 November 2025

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic consultant in intensive care medicine. This substantive position is a replacement post after a recent retirement, and the successful applicant will join the eight existing Intensive Care Consultants who lead patient care in the critical care unit in our department. We welcome applications from candidates with Intensive Care Medicine as a sole specialty, as well as those dual or triple accredited in other specialties. Single‑specialty ICM holders are encouraged to contact the department to discuss potential job plans.

There is also the possibility of working with some contracted PAs with the Transfer service which will be externally funded.

The department is extremely forward‑thinking and has established itself in the research arena, with multiple presentations at both national and international meetings.

The hospital is located in Chichester, situated between beautiful areas on the South Coast and the South Downs National Park, giving ample opportunity to pursue a variety of different interests in and out of work.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will take part in the 1:9 critical care on‑call rota. The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub‑section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
