An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Orthoptist or Optometrist with a keen interest in Low Vision Aids to join our dedicated team at the Frimley Park Eye Treatment Centre. This is an ideal role for someone passionate about delivering patient-centred care and eager to further develop their clinical expertise within a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

You will play a key role in our expanding Ophthalmology service, running your own Low Vision Aid clinics and contributing to the growth and innovation of the service. There will also be opportunities to undertake extended roles, including in areas such as Glaucoma, offering excellent career development potential.

You will join a large and dynamic multidisciplinary team comprising Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Ophthalmic Nurses, Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Assistants, and Care Assistants. We also work in close collaboration with colleagues in Neurology, Endocrinology, and Elderly Care, ensuring holistic, integrated care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Frimley Park Hospital, although the post-holder will be expected to work at any of the hospitals where eye services are provided by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. A car is therefore essential.

* To provide Low Visual aid service as an autonomous practitioner across all Frimley Health sites.
* To assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the service.
* Works as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team.
* To be responsible for the assessment, formulation and conduction of treatment aids for patients needing low visual aids.
* To undertake the lead role for our Low Visual Aid Service, by contributing to a comprehensive quality service for the patients referred to the service.

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients referred to the Low Visual aids service.

To have knowledge of the assessment of patients for low visual aids.

To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner for the evaluation of visual acuity in referrals from the specialist services.

To liaise with the visual impairment services team and health professionals regarding the educational and social needs of patients.

To work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurses, and Clerks etc.


Person Specification


Qualification

* Diploma or Degree of British Orthoptics or Optometry
* Registration with Health Professional Council
* Post graduate module in LVA
* Management qualification or working towards
* GCP trained if applicable


Skills and Knowledge

* Good leadership skills
* Good time management and organisational skills
* Computer literate and able to utilise programmes like word and excel
* Clinical Teaching qualification
* Experience in extended roles


Specail Requirements

* Car Driver
* Knowledge of current NHS trends which influence service provisions
* Clinical teaching experience
* Evidence of on-going training and development
* Keen for professional development
