This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the Aerospace Integrated Research and Test Centre (AIRTeC) in Filton, Bristol, for an internship in the Structures Test Team.
AIRTeC is a state-of-the-art, £100 million research and testing facility. It was designed to provide the most advanced collaborative environment for Airbus, our suppliers, partners, and academic institutions. Our facility complements Airbus s world-leading design, integration, manufacturing, and assembly capabilities, all located on the Filton site.
The Structures Test Team is one of three centres that manages or performs a full range of tests on all Airbus aircraft programmes and Research & Technology initiatives. Our mission is to provide the critical data needed for our products to fly and be certified. We do this by demonstrating the strength and longevity of the cutting-edge materials and components used to build our aircraft.
We are currently focused on developing and defining the physical and virtual testing methods needed to support future aircraft products. We must be ready to test new, lightweight, sustainable materials, technologies, and configurations, such as future hydrogen-powered aircraft, highly flexible high-span wings, and novel blended-wing-body aircraft.
Designing test fixtures & systems for small material coupons up to large tests of whole aircraft wings;
Working at the forefront of digital technologies: using AI and Data Driven Platforms to enhance our data analytics capabilities and virtual simulation test means;
Developing advanced test methods: deploying and developing advanced measurement, control and data acquisition techniques;
Building a cool future: designing & commissioning new cryogenic test facilities for hydrogen powered flight;
Performing hands on testing.
Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.
Studying towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Control Systems, Systems Engineering, Physics, Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence/Data Science or equivalent;
Interest in Physical Materials Testing, Structures, Metrology, Hydraulics, Control Systems, Data Acquisition & Sensing, Cryogenics, Virtual Test & Simulation, Non Linear Finite Element Modelling, AI & Machine Learning, Computer vision, statistical analysis;
Passionate about digital and emerging technologies.
SECURITY CLEARANCE: You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
