Job summary We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic substantive Consultant with general Obstetrics & Gynaecology interests to add to the existing number of substantive consultants. This post is an integral part of the quality care in our high activity obstetric unit, supporting resident Obstetricians, midwives and operational team in real time clinical decision making and ensuring robust care in all areas of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Expectations: Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the care of all patients presenting to the hospital To share with colleagues, the management of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients requiring admission Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students To undertake duties as defined within the agreed job plan To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD) To participate in on-call rota providing specialist and timely advice Main duties of the job This is a substantive post with general Obstetrics & Gynaecologist interest so the post holders are expected to: Be responsible for the provision of acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology services within Luton & Dunstable Hospital Provide acute services in the following areas of clinical care including Triage & Day Assessment Unit when on delivery suite duties. Provide antenatal clinic services running a general or special interest clinic dependant on the skills and expertise of the candidate. Provide acute gynaecology services, when needed, to help meet clinical operational standards Provide caesarean section list, at least once a month and according to the needs of the service, teaching and training the Specialty Registrars and other resident doctors. Strive to continuously develop services for obstetrics that are of a consistent high quality for the whole of the patient pathway. Provide optimum care, which is based on best clinical practise, in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for pregnant women.
