Overview

Are you a newly qualified Clinical Photographer or do you have experience as a Clinical Photographer that you would like to develop? An exciting job opportunity has arisen in The Medical Photography Department at the Queen Victoria Hospital for a Band 5 Medical Photographer. This will be a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their medical photography career in a busy, friendly department.

We are looking for a versatile and enthusiastic clinical photographer to join our team and help provide a wide range of services to our Trust and external customers. Clinical photography is undertaken on a daily basis in our medical photography studio and throughout the hospital in operating theatres, dressing clinics, minor injuries department, out patients, wards, maxillofacial unit, orthodontic department, corneoplastic unit and the burns unit.

Responsibilities

* Perform clinical photography in all surgical specialties within the Queen Victoria Hospital (Medical Photography Studio, Operating Theatres, Dressing Clinics, Minor Injuries department, Out Patients, Pre Assessment, Wards, Maxillofacial Unit, Orthodontic department, Corneo Plastic Unit and Burns Unit).
* Take responsibility for informing patients, relatives and/or carers of the nature and purposes of clinical photography and gaining the appropriate levels of consent.
* Reassure traumatized, anxious and self‑conscious patients and undertake photography with a chaperone present where appropriate.
* Maintain a process of continued professional development and keep up to date knowledge of national/audit standards.
* Co‑operate with clinical staff to achieve optimal photographic methods and results.
* Ensure the service is provided according to the Trust Photographic and Video Recording Policy and the Data Protection Act 1998.
* Undertake clinical photography for other healthcare sites according to requests.
* Serve as an ambassador for your profession and employer.
* Use effective communication, tact and persuasion with all levels of clients including staff, patients and relatives, taking into account impairments, levels of consciousness, language barriers and time constraints.
* Foster good relationships with other departments, the multidisciplinary team and visitors to the unit, and help maintain morale for staff and patients.
* Undertake non‑clinical photography for research, audit, publicity, promotion and marketing.
* Produce staff portraits for website, journals, identity posters.
* Use specialist knowledge to guide clients with lecture presentation requirements (range, style, quality, cost, time, corporate image).
* Provide photographic and graphic assistance in Trust marketing, public relations and printed information (documented ward documents, posters, leaflets, booklets, articles for medical journals).
* Maintain awareness of costs to the department and assist in ensuring income generation work is appropriately charged.
* Produce accurate job sheets for Trust invoices and monitor stock levels of consumables.
* Maintain up‑to‑date specialist knowledge in all software programmes and output systems; notify departmental manager of relevant training.
* Be responsible for ongoing training assessment and quality control of all work produced within the graphics section.
* Fully understand and operate the Clinical Image Management software and upload images to the Trust‑wide intranet viewing system.
* Maintain knowledge of new systems and advise the manager of benefits of acquisition.
* Provide assistance with Audio‑Visual systems and upload clinical images sent by patients for virtual clinics.
* Participate in the Trust’s annual appraisal system and pay progression review where applicable.
* Ensure all mandatory training is up to date and maintain working knowledge of local practices, policies and procedures; highlight training needs to manager.


Qualifications

* Relevant Medical Photography qualification.
* Eligible for AHCS registration.
* Demonstrable experience within a Medical Photography department.
