Role
To support students aged 11-19 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in accessing a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum. The SEN Teaching Assistant will work under the direction of teaching staff and the SENCO to provide tailored academic, social, emotional, and behavioural support to enable students to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities Student Support
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and physical needs.
* Support students in mainstream lessons and/or specialist provisions.
* Adapt learning materials under the guidance of teaching staff.
* Assist students in developing independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
* Promote inclusion and positive participation in school life.
Academic Support
* Support literacy, numeracy, and subject-specific learning.
* Reinforce teacher instructions and clarify tasks.
* Monitor and record student progress.
* Support students during assessments and examinations where appropriate.
Behaviour and Pastoral Support
* Implement behaviour support strategies in line with school policy.
* Support students with emotional regulation and social skills development.
* Help maintain a safe and structured learning environment.
* Build positive and professional relationships with students.
Personal Care (if applicable)
* Provide personal care support where required ( mobility, toileting, feeding), ensuring dignity and safeguarding at all times.
Collaboration and Communication
* Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
* Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and review meetings.
* Communicate effectively with parents/carers when required.
* Attend relevant training and staff meetings.
Person Specification Essential
* Experience working with young people aged 11-19.
* Understanding of Special Educational Needs and inclusive education.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Patience, empathy, and resilience.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
* Relevant qualification ( Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
* Experience supporting students with ASD, ADHD, or SEMH needs.
* Knowledge of EHCP processes.
* Training in safeguarding, behaviour management, or first aid.
