Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and professional HCPC/NMC registered Operating Department Practitioner/Theatre Nurse to work with a team providing high quality care for patients attending the service for the surgical and non-surgical management of foot and ankle pathology. Experience in Orthopedic/Podiatric Surgery scrub and previous Band 6 theatre/management is essential.
The postholder will work with Podiatric Surgery Consultants, Registrars, Podiatrists, ODPs, Theatre Assistants, HCAs, and Administration staff. The service offers Outpatient Clinics at Danetre Hospital Daventry, with Day Surgery based at Danetre Hospital. The service is currently open Monday to Friday.
This role will primarily involve working within the Day Surgery Unit to support the theatre team in delivering bi-weekly surgical lists, alongside Podiatric Consultants and the team. The remainder of the time will be spent in clinic and supporting administrative/organisational duties linked with service delivery, both based at Danetre Hospital.
The post holder will deputise and work in partnership with the Theatre Team Lead to ensure a positive patient experience while delivering high standards of care throughout the department.
Main duties
* Work as Senior Theatre Practitioner in theatre alongside the Podiatric Consultant Surgeons and theatre team to ensure safe and high quality care delivery within foot and ankle surgical procedures.
* Assist in coordinating the department on a day-to-day basis, including the Day Surgery unit and clinics.
* Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure facilities and resources are available to deliver an efficient high standard of care for patients undergoing day case foot/ankle surgery under regional anaesthesia.
* Experience in anaesthetics and care of the deteriorating patient would be beneficial though not essential.
* Become competent in practice and theory in all specialist fields of the department (theatre, pre-operative assessment and follow up dressing clinics if not already held).
* Ensure equipment is available for carrying out a wide range of procedures and adapt skills and knowledge to work with different surgeons and specialties.
* Support the day-to-day running of the theatre lists and clinics in terms of administrative duties and organisation to ensure smooth running of surgical lists with support from the Team Lead.
* Supervise other staff as appropriate within the service and support training and supervisory duties.
* Complete audits, stock checks and support wider service changes with support from Team Lead.

Essential
* Registered health care professional (NMC or HCPC registration) Diploma / Degree
* Extensive Operating Theatre experience, specifically in the scrub role (approx. 5 years as a guide)
* Experience in managing junior staff including appraisal, supervision and performance
* Evidence of CPD relevant to the clinical area at specialist level
* Knowledge of Podiatric Surgery/Orthopaedic procedures or willingness to learn
* Post Graduation Courses & Qualifications within specialist area
Desirable

* Previous NHS theatre / Outpatients clinic experience
* Intermediate Life Support trained
* Phlebotomy/IV cannulation skills desirable
