*Job Overview*
The successful candidate will assume a direct clinical role within the department, sharing all facilities equally with the existing consultants. This is a substantive post (10 PAs) and the appointee will be joining 32 Consultant Ophthalmologist posts already established. The successful candidate will work 10 PA's a week, which will include an 8 DCC and 2 SPA split (Flexible working may be considered). It is expected that the successful applicant will play an active role in the consultant on call rota for VR (currently 1:4, but with a plan to move to 1:5). Whilst most vitreoretinal work is undertaken at HUTH, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will undertake 1 outpatient VR clinic in Grimsby per week
Main duties of the job
The Consultant Will, In Conjunction With Colleagues:
i. Provide Vitreo-retinal clinics and theatre
ii. Provide an Ophthalmic service in accordance with the agreed timetable and subsequent job plan
iii. Provide 1 in 4 on call cover for Hull Royal Infirmary
iv. Supervise and help train colleagues including trainees and Allied Health Professionals
v. Help with advice and management of emergency patients along with the on-call team when needed
vi. Work flexibly to provide adequate cover for colleagues when needed to ensure smooth running of the service

*Essential Criteria*
* Full GMC registration
* Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following:
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
* Certificate of Eligibility for specialist Registration (CESR) Where not available then commitment to work towards CESR competancies will be required
*Qualifications And Training
Essential criteria*
* FRCOphth or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* Postgraduate degree: e.g. MD, PhD Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in post graduate training
*Clinical Experience
Essential criteria*
* Competent Vitreoretinal and cataract surgeon
* Fellowship in Vitreioretinal Surgery
*Essential Criteria
Management and Administration Experience*
* Ability to manage and lead medical/surgical teams
* Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the unit
* Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
Desirable criteria
* Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/ delivery
Teaching, Audit and Research
*Essential Criteria*
* Experience of supervising junior medical staff
* Commitent to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students
* Evidence of participation in audit
* Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of having conducted a practice changing audit
* Experience of teaching/ training in clinical courses e.g. IMPACT Course, Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor
* Original peer-reviewed research publications
