The Emergency Department at St Richards Hospital, Chichester are looking for Band 6 Paediatric Senior Nurses who are as passionate about delivering quality patient care as we are and who want to make a difference to patients and their families at a time they are most in need.
We are looking for kind and caring, dynamic nurses with excellent communication and organisational skills, who are able to motivate, support and inspire others and be proactive in their role.
We receive a wide variety of Emergency patients, including Trauma, Medical/Surgical, Gynaecology, Maternity and Paediatrics. We have a developing Urgent Treatment Centre run by our Emergency Nurse Practitioner Team who work closely with staff to develop and enhance their knowledge and skills in minor injury management and treatment.
We are a very supportive and encouraging department with close links to Brighton University and are supported by our dedicated Practice Development Team.
Main duties of the job
To support the Paediatric Lead to manage a team of nurses ensuring the development and maintenance of high standards of nursing care and take responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical area. Take a lead for a specific area of professional practice as delegated by the Paediatric Lead and deputise in there absence.
To provide a high standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care as required within the Paediatric Emergency Department. To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with children and their family/carers, the MDT, other departments within the trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation.
In order to deliver the above, you will require an excellent understanding and knowledge of children’s health needs including substantial ED experience and post qualification experience. You will take responsibility for the paediatric department within the Emergency Department both during the day and a night and will be supported by other staff as patient safety demand dictates.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

Main Duties
1. Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision, based on evidence based practice.
2. To demonstrate excellence in ED Nursing skills and to be a source of knowledge for other junior staff.
3. Undertake and document a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment and triage or the physical and social needs of the patient.
4. Creates and utilises opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care
5. Influence and monitor standards of direct patient care delivery in accordance with best practice and operational protocols and guidelines
6. Leads a paediatric team through the shift
7. Promote good working relationships with the nursing teams, providing appropriate advice and support.
8. To have responsibility for the security and maintenance of equipment belonging to the Emergency Department
9. Facilitate the development of standards of care and assist with the implementation of appropriate monitoring techniques
10. Deputise for the Paediatric Lead Nurse in there absence.
11. Respond to incidents and complaints as they arise, reporting to senior nursing staff
12. Ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the different recipients, according to levels of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture, understanding or physical or mental health conditions.
