Join a dynamic team driving innovation in sustainable manufacturing. This hands-on R&D role focuses on developing and optimising new process engineering routes, from early-stage reaction chemistry through to commercial scale-up. You’ll design and run experiments, refine test rigs, analyse data, and translate insights into real-world engineering improvements - all while working closely with a collaborative, fast-paced team shaping the future of sustainable materials.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Operations:
* Champion a safety-first culture across all activities.
* Contribute to risk assessments, hazard reviews, and change management processes.
* Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to support equipment procurement and delivery.
* Troubleshoot process and equipment challenges, implementing effective solutions to improve performance and scalability.
Research, Development & Scale-Up:
* Lead and deliver technical projects to optimise carbon conversion and manufacturing processes.
* Design and run experiments to enhance reaction conditions, efficiency, and material performance.
* Apply analytical techniques to evaluate and quantify results.
* Partner with materials and analytical teams to define product specifications and characterisation methods.
* Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
Performance & Data-Driven Insights:
* Define and track key metrics including quality, yield, throughput, and process capability.
* Maintain robust systems for capturing and reporting experimental data and process parameters.
* Use data insights to inform experimentation, optimise processes, and support decision-making.
* Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Person Specification
* This opportunity is ideal for an early-career engineer or scientist looking to grow within a collaborative, hands-on environment. You’ll hold a degree or PhD in a relevant discipline, with practical experience in chemical or materials processing and exposure to developing and scaling innovative processes within multidisciplinary teams.
* A background in chemical, reaction, or materials engineering is highly desirable, particularly with knowledge of thermodynamics and reaction kinetics. Experience using simulation and modelling tools (such as Aspen or Comsol), along with strong experimental design and data analysis skills, is essential.
* Additional experience in analytical development, materials process development, or scaling novel technologies would be advantageous.
* You’ll be adaptable, quick to learn, and comfortable balancing hands-on experimentation with process design. A proactive mindset, strong sense of ownership, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment are key. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential, with a willingness to share knowledge and support team success.
