Role
PMUK's Home Appliance Division is looking for an experienced Embedded Systems Team Leader to join and lead the R&D Embedded Systems team. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers and technicians in the day-to-day design and evaluation of embedded systems, firmware, and software components for kitchen appliances. The role requires strong technical leadership, task allocation, supervision, and mentoring.
What you will be doing
* Development Process: Oversee the design, development, and evaluation of the embedded systems, firmware, and software components, ensuring compliance with internal quality, cost, schedule, and customer requirements by allocating appropriate team resources.
* Task Allocation: Disseminate information to team members, allocate, supervise, mentor, and support tasks as required. Create and maintain project plans and task lists.
* Technical Expertise: Apply technical knowledge to resolve design issues and coordinate development within areas of expertise with internal contacts, external suppliers, customers, and other Panasonic organisations.
* Team Management: Manage holidays and leave, run bi-yearly performance reviews, create training plans, set objectives, address employee relations issues, monitor H&S and 5S, and coordinate maintenance of office and laboratory equipment.
* Document Control: Ensure project technical documents are completed on schedule and maintain control documentation including test reports and evaluation plans.
* Documentation Quality: Ensure drawings, specifications, and technical documents meet quality criteria.
* R&D: Explore new technologies to improve R&D systems and processes; identify and implement improvements to documentation, workflows, and processes.
* Meetings: Chair weekly team meetings, prepare reports, maintain issues logs, and participate in development meetings.
* Business Planning: Support management with business plan objective setting, resource planning, and budget monitoring; allocate resources and manage capital equipment justifications.
* Review Designs: Critique and evaluate designs, participate in peer reviews, and work to eradicate historic problems in future designs.
* Project Support: Ensure cost, scope, and schedule estimates are available and risks are managed and communicated to stakeholders.
Qualifications include a degree in engineering or a related discipline with five years of relevant industry experience, or at least ten years in a similar role. Experience in managing teams and in developing embedded systems and best practice processes is essential. A strong project management skillset, a quality mindset, and the ability to work in a design-led environment are highly desirable. Candidates should have extensive experience in embedded systems design, requirements, coding, verification, and validation, along with strong technical documentation and modelling skills. Knowledge of manufacturing and industrial processes for embedded components (e.g., ARM-based microcontrollers such as STM32) and experience with UML/SysML modelling are advantageous. Proficiency with agile tools (Jira) and version control, and high-level CAD/simulation skills (Matlab/Simulink, STMCube) are preferred. Familiarity with MS Office and SharePoint is beneficial.
