Food Services Assistant

SouthTyneside District Hospital Catering Department requires one full time foodservice assistant who has a flexible approach to work and work routines. Werequire cover across 7 days per week to include weekend working. The successfulcandidate will be expected to be flexible in their approach to shifts and shiftpatterns. This post requires weekend working. Full training is provided. Pleasenote this post involves some driving, you will therefore require a full UKdriving licence.
Main duties of the job
South Tyneside DistrictHospital Catering DepartmentTo ensure the patient, staff and visitor mealservice is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment. Ensure highstandards of cleanliness are met and maintained
Ensure that all food supplieswhich are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System(FSMS)
To be flexible on a day-to-daybasis moving area to area and across departments (within catering)
Deep cleaning
Driving the catering vehicle onand off site
Assist with food preparation asnecessary and as requested
Liaise with supervisorsand managers

Job responsibilities

To complete daily food service tasks to Trust locations. To ensure thepatient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean andhygienic environment. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met andmaintained
Understand the International Dysphasia Diet Standardisation (IDDSI)descriptors which will assist the safe service to patients who require amodified diet
Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked followingthe Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
Record food temperatures as directed by the FSMS
To be flexible on a day to day basis moving area to area and acrossdepartments (within catering)
Operate cash registers and card payment machines, complete cashdeclaration sheets
Ensure stock rotation is followed
Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested
Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to accept and prioritise instructions
* Previous knowledge of catering environment
Qualifications
* Basic Numeracy and Literacy education
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
Experience
* Good understanding of catering services
* Catering Experience
* Experience of working in a healthcare environment
* Experience in production environment
* Experience of cash/card payment handling
* Previous experience in dealing with the public
Physical Skills
* Combination of bending/lifting/standing and walking with frequent requirement for physical effort.
* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post, full UK driving licence
