Skilled Composite Aircraft Fitter
Location: Bristol – Western Approach
Contract Type: 6‑Month Rolling Contract (Open‑Ended)
Shift Pattern: 12/7 Day Shift (Average 40.25 Hours Per Week)
Pay rates:
£23.59 per hour once on shift - £18.43 per hour during training period (approximately 2 weeks) £27.65 per hour weekday overtime £36.86 per hour weekend overtime
Morson Edge is recruiting for Skilled Composite Aircraft Fitters to join a leading aerospace manufacturing programme based at Western Approach, Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity to work on advanced aircraft structures, supporting the assembly of main wing assemblies and sub‑assemblies using composite and metallic materials. Working within a modern aerospace manufacturing environment, you'll be part of a highly skilled team delivering complex aircraft components to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and trim composite and metallic aircraft components
- Drill, ream, and countersink composite and metallic structures
- Set aircraft components into calibrated build jigs
- Carry out deburring and under‑head radius preparation of aircraft assemblies
- Perform fettling activities using approved and calibrated tooling
- Use nut runners and pre‑set torque equipment for assembly operations
- Interpret engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions, and technical specifications
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and product quality
- Support continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing environment
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements and procedures
- Self‑certify completed work in accordance with approved processes and standards
Essential Skills & Experience
- Completion of a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds Level 3 qualification
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience assembling aircraft components using engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
- Experience working with composite and metallic aircraft structures
- Ability to assemble and trim composite materials to close tolerances
- Strong hand skills, attention to detail, and quality focus
- Understanding of aerospace quality systems and manufacturing standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
Desirable Skills
- Experience operating CNC machinery and associated manufacturing processes
- Working knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office applications
- Experience within an aerospace or aircraft manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles
Assessment Process
Successful applicants will be required to attend an on‑site trade test, which will assess practical competencies including:
- Drilling
- Riveting
- Countersinking
- Working with composite materials
