Role Specific Requirements

Basic Skills
* Good communication skills, written and verbal.
* Effective listening and teamwork skills to create a collaborative work environment.
* IT literate – able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
What you can make a difference in
* Ensure proper and timely installation of traffic‑signal assets, ancillary equipment and other highways systems, unsupervised or as part of a team.
* Proper use of relevant hand tools, power tools, working‑at‑height aids and manual handling aids in accordance with risk assessments, method statements and training.
* Collaborate with customers and other contractors on site.
* Meet quality standards and site specifications in installation handbooks.
* Diagnose and resolve faults on traffic‑signal assets and other equipment within the TSM contract.
* Complete reactive and proactive maintenance tasks to high quality standards.
* Install, replace and set up traffic‑signal assets and other highways systems, unsupervised or team‑based.
* Carry out remedial works following incidents such as road‑traffic collisions or equipment failure.
* Produce detailed clearance notes via the Fault Management System (FMS) and other digital platforms.
* Adhere to contract specific requirements – response & repair times, periodic/planned works, etc.
* Book time in accordance with the Variable Pay Policy and Live Time Booking process.
* Meet minimum requirements of the Highway Electrical Registrations Scheme (HERS) occupation and work towards the associated NVQ level.
* Complete mandatory National Highway Sector Scheme training, product and equipment training (formal, peer‑to‑peer, on‑the‑job, self‑learning).
* Support a positive Health & Safety culture – risk assessments, event reporting, vehicle & equipment checks, lone‑working device use.
* Accurate collection and processing of data for fault‑free equipment performance analysis.
* Adopt new business policies and processes positively.

Minimum Educational Requirements
* 4 GCSEs at 4 or above, including Maths and English (or Functional Skills / Apprentice equivalent).
* Desirable: Keen interest in Engineering.
Recruitment Process
Applications close on 16th February 2026. In‑person interviews will be held; some roles may also require virtual interviews or an assessment centre. Assessment centres combine group problem‑solving, individual interviews, presentations and role‑simulation exercises. Interviews are competency‑based and provide an opportunity to discuss your motivations for the next career step.
Successful apprentices will join on Tuesday 1st September 2026 – you must be available from that date.
