Job overview
The post holder will provide support to a specific clinical nurse specialist service offering care and support to a specific cancer patient group. Support across other tumour sites may be needed on occasions but the bulk of time will be spent within one Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) service.
As part of the multi -disciplinary team (MDT) the post holder will contribute to the efficient provision of a high standard of care to cancer patients who are undergoing diagnosis, those on treatment and those on regular clinical follow up. They will provide elements of direct and indirect patient care and offer efficient clerical administrative work in support of the wider CNS service.
Main duties of the job
A key element of the role will be to set up and directly contribute to the electronic holistic needs assessment (eHNA) process. The role will involve competent use of the Macmillan My Care Plan system and completion of training needed to support and underpin this along with required assessment work. There will also be a need to directly contribute to reports and the provision of data required by Thames Valley Cancer Alliance (TVCA) and in support of the Cancer Outcomes and Services Data set (COSD)

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
1. GCSE English Language and Mathematics or equivalent
2. Undertaken HCA courses relating to cancer (e.g. The Cancer Journey Caring for the Cancer Patient and their Family) or willingness to undertake
3. Willingness to undertake Macmillan learning and development including courses/competencies
4. Proficient keyboard and computer literacy skills/ courses
Desirable criteria
5. Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or NVQ 4 equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
6. Relevant health or social care experience at Agenda for Change Band 3 or equivalent
7. Experience of multi-professional working in a healthcare setting
8. Experience in the use of data management, producing reports, meeting notes and electronic diaries
9. Evidence of excellent communication skills Including use of empathy and verbal assessment skills
10. Good health-based observation and basic nursing assessment skills
11. An understanding of cancer care and the needs of complex patients on complex cancer care pathways
12. Awareness and understanding of key cancer policies and a knowledge of the role of the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance and Macmillan Cancer Support
13. Experience in coordinating a patient caseload and care pathway
14. Awareness of the NHS long term cancer plan and personalised care, and electronic Holistic Needs Assessment (eHNA)
Desirable criteria
15. Experience of coaching/teaching patients and carers on health issues
16. Knowledge of cancer care, including diagnosis treatments, and terminology
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
17. Proficient in health setting IT skills, especially Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint & MS Teams
18. Able to use own initiative and work independently and as part of a busy cancer nursing team
19. Effective organisation skills to manage own workload and in support of the wider cancer team
20. Ability to communicate using a range of communication models and approaches, both written and verbal
21. Practical problem-solving skills applicable to health care setting

24. Ability to show empathy and understand the difficulties faced by people affected by cancer.
