Planning Enforcement Officer

Maldon District Council

Temporary, Full Time

£40.00 ph umbrella

Location: Maldon

Closing Date: 6th February 2026

Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit a Planning Enforcement Officer on an initial 3-month temporary basis. Please note that this requires on site presence a minimum of 2 days per week.

Key Accountabilities

We are looking for a Planning Enforcement Officer to focus on case investigation of potential breaches of planning control to ensure a high quality built and natural environment in Maldon District can be maintained. Working with the Team Leader and our dedicated Compliance Officer you will not have to carry out sites visits and aside from any essential training and equipment pick-up/drop off/ attendance for appeals and court proceedings, you could otherwise be a remote worker, supported by regular meetings with the Planning Enforcement and Legal teams. You will need to liaise with members of the public by phone, draft reports and notices as required on planning enforcement investigations and you may be required to represent the Council on enforcement related appeals/ court proceedings.

1. Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with people
2. Proven ability to give sound planning enforcement advice and guidance
3. Excellent ability to reason, process information, be curious, ask questions and analyse potential outcomes to make timely and effective decisions
4. The ability to work independently, but as part of a high performing team
5. Excellent organisational skills
6. Tenacity and a problem-solving mindset; and the ability to adapt to change and use initiative
