Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join our dynamic Acute Medicine at Peterborough City Hospital. This is a busy, progressive environment that offers excellent opportunities for clinical experience and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Work a full shift pattern as part of the Acute Medicine team, managing acutely unwell medical patients across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and Short Stay Unit (SSU).
* Undertake initial clerking, history-taking, physical examination, and formulation of management plans for patients admitted under Acute Medicine.
* Request and interpret investigations such as blood tests, ECGs, and imaging, and escalate care appropriately to senior clinicians.
* Participate in daily consultant‑led ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings to ensure safe and effective patient care.
* If applicable, transition to another specialty after six months and fulfil duties within a multidisciplinary team.
* Attend and contribute to weekly departmental teaching, including case‑based discussions, simulation sessions, and guideline reviews.
* Adhere to departmental and Trust protocols, seeking senior clinical input when needed.
* Participate in teaching and training of medical students, allied health professionals, and junior medical staff.
* Engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and service delivery.
* Maintain ongoing CPD in collaboration with your Educational Supervisor and complete mandatory training.
* Uphold confidentiality, professional conduct, and Trust values as outlined in the Staff Charter.
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, and specialty colleagues to ensure continuity of care.
* Work an average of up to 48 hours per week, including out‑of‑hours and weekend shifts, and provide cover for annual and study leave.
* Submit leave requests in accordance with Trust policy, typically with eight weeks’ notice.
