Our Banking and Finance practice acts for banks, non‑traditional lenders, public sector bodies and borrower clients in relation to a wide range of financing transactions.
The team are now looking for a talented lawyer to join them either as a Newly Qualified or an up to 2‑year PQE in Southampton. With a strong rating in Chambers and an enviable FTSE 250 client list, this is an excellent opportunity to join a multi‑disciplinary banking practice with national and international reach.
So what will you be doing?
Working from our offices in Southampton, you will be part of our Southampton practice and a member of our national banking team. You will have the opportunity to work with great clients on high‑value and complex transactions including international as well as domestic financings, refinancings and restructurings. One day you might be part of the team advising a lender on an investment property financing transaction or working with a private equity investor on the financing aspects of a corporate acquisition. The next you could be working with a client on debt restructuring or advising a lender in relation to an asset finance matter.
What does the ideal candidate look like?
You will either be a newly qualified lawyer with banking experience gained during your training contract, or a qualified solicitor with up to 2 years’ good general banking transactional experience in private practice or in‑house. You will pride yourself on your ability to work collaboratively to achieve results; you will have an analytical mind and enjoy the intellectual challenge that this work presents. Your pragmatism and commercial outlook, together with excellent drafting and organisational skills, will be vital in supporting our clients.
You will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be looking for a role that allows you to further develop your knowledge, expertise and reputation. You will be keen to work closely with a partner and a legal director, take an active part in developing client relationships to help build our regional and national businesses, and be excited by the opportunity to align yourself to the team’s specialist practice areas (corporate finance, real‑estate finance, asset finance and public finance) and/or one or more of our sector groups.
You will want to take responsibility for running smaller matters yourself, and be a key member of the wider transactional team working on larger financings. You will also be a personable team player, passionate about client service and keen to be involved in business development initiatives. You want to be part of a collegiate team of like‑minded professionals and are looking for a supportive environment where you can apply skills already learned and develop specialist skills that will help you advance your career. Preferred candidates will have experience in secured lending, invoice finance and asset finance, demonstrating a strong foundation in transactional banking matters.
To be successful in this role you will need, as a minimum:
* To be a qualified solicitor (NQ or up to 2 years’ PQE) and able to practice in England and Wales.
* Have experience of good quality banking or finance work as a trainee or post‑qualification (or equivalent in‑house experience).
* Proven black‑letter drafting skills and analytical skills.
* The ability to deliver complex advice in a coherent and practical way that is easy for non‑lawyers to understand.
