Technical Author Salary: Up to £43,000 per annum (DOE) Location: Clevedon (Hybrid working available) Industry: Engineering / Technical Documentation / Manufacturing Overview We are seeking an experienced Technical Author to produce and maintain high-quality customer documentation for engineering products manufactured in Clevedon and distributed globally. This role will focus on creating clear, accurate, and compliant technical documentation including instruction manuals, spare parts manuals, declarations of conformity, and supporting product documentation for both internal teams and customers. You will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to ensure documentation is delivered to the highest standards of quality, clarity, and compliance. Key Responsibilities: Technical Documentation Plan, research, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation from concept through to delivery Produce instruction manuals, spare parts manuals, addendums, and declarations of conformity Ensure documentation follows company house style and quality standards Content Development & Accuracy Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation Gather information from technical drawings, existing documentation, SMEs, and direct product interaction Ensure terminology and procedures are consistent, structured, and easy to follow Image & Visual Content Creation Create and manipulate photographs and technical illustrations to support written documentation Ensure visual content complements and enhances technical understanding Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with engineering teams and subject matter experts to verify accuracy Coordinate reviews, proofreading, and document approvals prior to release Influence stakeholders to ensure timely completion and quality of deliverables Compliance & Standards Ensure all documentation complies with relevant industry standards and directives Maintain document control and adherence to internal processes and procedures Skills & Experience Required: Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience in mechanical or electromechanical engineering Alternatively, engineering apprenticeship or forces engineering background considered Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Technical Author within an engineering environment Experience producing manuals for complex engineering products Experience using XML authoring applications Understanding of Component Content Management Systems (CCMS) Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Experience with image manipulation tools such as CorelDraw Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical diagrams accurately Strong organisation, planning, and attention to detail Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to work independently and proactively In Return, You Will Receive: Financial & Security Bonus up to 7.5% of basic annual salary Pension with company contribution of up to 8% Life assurance of 4 x basic salary Health & Wellbeing Cash health plan Thriving Wellbeing Programme supporting physical, mental, and social wellbeing Discounted gym memberships Time Off 25 days holiday (excluding Bank Holidays) On-site Facilities Free parking Ample cycle storage, lockers, and showers Subsidised canteen Dedicated wellbeing and prayer room Apply If this role sounds of interest please click apply to send your CV, or contact Kirk at Pertemps, Bristol.
