Salary: £41,771 – £44,075 per annum

Overview
Kirklees Council is seeking a qualified Senior Conservation Officer to advise and support on heritage matters across the district. The role requires membership or working towards membership of the International Council on Historic Building Conservation (IHBC).
The successful candidate will manage and advise on listed buildings, conservation areas, and heritage‑led projects such as The Cultural Heart, The George Hotel, and regeneration schemes in Marsden, Batley, and Dewsbury.
Working within the Conservation, Design, Ecology & Trees team of Development Management, the officer will collaborate with specialist teams including planning, policy, regeneration, biodiversity, landscape, and arboriculture.
Responsibilities
* Provide authoritative heritage advice to colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
* Offer pre‑application and consultation guidance on heritage issues.
* Case‑manage listed building and DM consultations affecting the historic environment.
* Support the council’s Local Plan through heritage‑focused policy development.
* Contribute to key projects such as the TransPennine Rail Upgrade and regeneration of historic areas.
Qualifications
* Qualified professional with at least 2–4 years in heritage, conservation or a related field.
* Full member of IHBC or progressing towards membership.
* Strong knowledge of listed building regulations and heritage management.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
