Are you a Transport Planner looking for your next challenge? We are on the hunt for someone to join our busy Transport Planning team in Reading on a permanent basis. The role will suit a transport planner with a broad understanding of all elements of the profession, ideally with a focus on transport planning for development planning projects and the ability to work on public sector schemes.
About The Role
The Reading office plays a key role in supporting major residential and mixed‑use developments across the Thames Valley and wider South of England. It is located minutes from the train station, offering convenient links to London and Oxford and beautiful river views.
This is an exciting opportunity to help grow an established and reputable business, leading a diverse portfolio of transport planning projects across the region and nationwide, primarily in the public sector. Our planners work closely with Stantec’s multidisciplinary teams in civil engineering, flood risk, utilities, environmental planning and master‑planning to deliver integrated development strategies from early‑stage land promotion to planning consent and delivery.
Our team has a strong track record supporting strategic land promotion, outline planning applications and large‑scale residential masterplans, working with national housebuilders, land promoters and public sector clients to unlock complex development sites. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects from larger, more complex strategic land development proposals through to smaller sites, as well as strategic infrastructure delivery and public sector commissions. This role will enable you to develop your transport planning skills and abilities alongside our multidisciplinary offering.
On a day‑to‑day basis, you will be responsible for supporting the technical output of transportation projects. You will produce Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, a variety of transport studies and associated technical analysis, plus support the wider regional team on our range of projects. You will liaise with clients, design teams, local authorities and the general public, and play an important role in mentoring and developing junior team members.

About You
You will be degree qualified ideally in transportation, geography, engineering or a related field. You will have experience and an understanding of the planning system, and experience with Transport Assessments, Travel Planning, junction modelling/analysis, and relevant software packages. Strong numerical skills are important, and you should ideally be working towards professional qualification such as Chartered Transport Planning Professional.
