We are looking for a
Senior Quality Assurance Engineer - Fixed Term
Location: Newcastle / Hybrid (3 days a week from home)
Team: Product Development
The Role:
Rightmove Landlord & Tenant Services is an innovative, technology-driven business providing services to the property industry from a bespoke web-based platform. Part of the Rightmove Group, we employ around 100 staff including a technology team who deliver industry-leading features and products to letting agents, landlords and tenants nationwide.
As a team we believe:
Being a QA engineer is more than just testing, we are champions of quality and we are passionate about embedding it throughout the lifecycle to prevent defects rather than find them, and to build systems we are proud of rather than break them.
We believe in testing continuously rather than at the end and that quality is the responsibility of the whole team. We are subject matter experts guiding our teams to think critically about all aspects of delivery not just functional but for example in areas like security, performance, accessibility and usability.
As a senior quality assurance engineer, you are responsible for:
* Advocating for implementation of best practices across all disciplines and promoting a quality mindset within the team
* Creating a safe environment within the team where everyone shares the responsibility for quality
* Driving the refinement sessions by covering appropriate details like acceptance tests, implementation details, risks, release & monitoring details etc in the tickets
* Helping the team understand and estimate any test efforts, test dependencies during planning and refinement sessions
* Reviewing requirements to understand gaps, the potential user impact, risk and dependencies on other internal/external services in Rightmove
* Reviewing the designs and helping the team deliver features that are accessible and inclusive to everyone
* Pairing with engineers during development and code review to ensure appropriate test coverage at different levels and to avoid any duplication of efforts
* Ensuring our automation test framework and coverage is targeted, relevant, efficient and resilient
* Working with the team to determine the root cause of issues, for example: using logs, elastic search and database
* Owning and effectively managing QA ceremonies within the team such as bug backlog and triage process
* Communicating and collaborating with wider Rightmove team's and stakeholders on various topics
* Improving QA processes and practices across Rightmove by working closely with members of the QA community
* Actively contributing to our QA community, by sharing your experience and learning from others
Skills we are looking for:
* Quality Assurance in software, testing large scale web based applications.
* Experience working in an agile environment with continuous release mechanisms.
* Experience working within a complex microservice architecture
* Exposure to running and debugging automated test suites within frameworks using Nightwatch or Cypress
* Experienced in using API testing tools such as Postman, RESTassured
* Understanding of web accessibility principles
* Experience with Elastic Search, Kafka, Oracle DB and similar data stores.
* Ability to lead and influence within your domain of expertise
* Ability to support and coach colleagues
We care much more about the person you are, how you think and approach things than a list of qualifications and 'buzzwords' on a CV. If you can't answer 'yes' to all of the above, but are a smart, self-motivated and passionate individual who is passionate about delivering an excellent end-user experience, please get in touch.
