Senior Solicitor and CEO at SEN Legal Ltd
SEN Legal is a long-established specialist education and disability law firm, representing clients across England.
We act on behalf of parents and young persons in applying for EHC needs assessment requests, SEND tribunal appeals, disability discrimination claims, judicial review claims, social care, and other related matters, alongside attendance at annual reviews.
We also provide advice to schools, colleges, and academy groups regarding funding consultations, non-payment of fees by local authorities, disability discrimination, annual reviews, and potential judicial review claims and proceedings.
At SEN Legal, the main duty of the paralegal role is to support solicitors and assist in managing client cases. You will be allocated your own cases on which you will be expected to take responsibility, working alongside the solicitor to manage day-to-day correspondence and developments.
Tasks associated with the role:
1. Liaise closely with clients via telephone, email, virtual platforms, and occasionally face-to-face, ensuring they are fully informed.
2. Maintain accurate case management records at all times.
3. Keep case management software and email systems updated with all key dates and deadlines, monitoring compliance.
4. Undertake instructions from the solicitor efficiently to ensure smooth case management.
5. Lodge SENDT appeals as required.
6. Send out ‘provision of place’ forms and work with schools to gather evidence supporting clients’ cases.
7. Submit GDPR requests and review received records under solicitor guidance.
8. Draft FOI requests as needed.
9. Assist with evidence preparation and liaise with expert witnesses regarding timescales.
10. Serve additional evidence as required.
11. Draft ‘requests for change’ to SENDT as they arise.
12. Liaise with counsel and clerks regarding upcoming hearings.
13. Arrange conferences and prepare instructions for counsel.
14. Collate bundles compliant with practice directions for SENDT, the administrative court, or the court of protection.
15. Arrange meetings during case proceedings.
Experience in special educational needs/education law or previous paralegal work is preferred but not required, as full training will be provided.
The role is suited for a team player eager to learn in a dynamic, fast-paced legal environment, with empathy, organization, IT proficiency, and excellent time-management skills.
This is a full-time role based in our Cambridge or Bury St Edmunds office. Attendance at the office is required initially, with the possibility of hybrid working (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) once standards are met.
Salary: £25,625, plus benefits such as a semi-annual bonus and private health insurance.
Applications should be sent to customerservices@senlegal.co.uk by the close of business on Friday, 16th May 2025.
