Already employing over 100 heads they continue to grow in Scotland, USA and Asia. They now need to make the key hire of a Mechanical Design Engineer. Responsibilities: Creation of 3D part/assembly models using AutoCAD Inventor, considering Design for Manufacture. Reviewing mechanical stack-up dimensions, interfaces and tolerances to match the customer’s requirements. Mechanical calculations for fasteners and probe gram forces. Awareness of material / component costs at the design phase and communicate to sales for gross margin calculations. Creation of accurate engineering BOMs in the ERP system. Maintain Design & BOM revision control using ECOs. Creation of manufacturing work instructions & SOPs for production. Support procurement with technical material orders. Provide ‘hands-on’ support for production, test & QA with New Product Introduction. Peer-to-peer pre-release audit checking of Designs & BOMs to eliminate errors. Proactive communication with all internal teams. Participate/contribute to weekly team meetings. Maintain the Design Vault system using ECOs and revision control for all documentation. Maintain the ERP system using ECOs and revision control for all master data, including parts costs, part naming conventions & BOM structures. Store customer data as per the company's server folder structures and data protection policy. You will be expected to have good communication skills as you will be expected to attend project kick-off meetings with customers and the wider engineering team. In this role you will liaise with customers during feasibility studies to provide innovative product solutions and liaise with external 3rd party suppliers on technical queries for purchased items. The successful candidate will have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with previous experience in a manufacturing or production engineering environment (ideally electronics, semiconductors, optoelectronics). You should also ideally have some exposure to product lifecycle management, NPI, and standard operating procedures. We would be especially keen to hear from candidates who have built jigs, fixtures, parts and housings for electronic or microelectronic circuitry or perhaps those involved in the mechanical design of small intricate products going into medical devices and other nano-technology sectors.
