Overview
Our Facilities department provides a range of support services across the Hospital including catering, cleaning and housekeeping. These services help play a vital role in ensuring all areas of our hospital achieve excellent standards of cleanliness, catering and hygiene. We are now recruiting housekeepers to join our friendly and professional team.
Responsibilities
* Work on our hospital wards with responsibility for monitoring and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and catering.
* Assist patients with appropriate meal selections and, where necessary, take into account medical, special dietary requirements and religious needs in conjunction with medical staff.
* Serve patient meals, hot and cold beverages and snacks at scheduled intervals throughout the day and respond to ad-hoc requirements.
* Monitor and maintain ward kitchen cleanliness and ensure it is clean and tidy at all times.
* Ensure patients have assistance with eating if required and advise nursing staff of any areas of concern.
* Take full responsibility for the ward kitchen, including temperature control, stock rotation, disposal of out-of-date food and ordering essential items.
* Coordinate extra meal requirements that may arise during core working hours.
* Monitor meal uptake and record information to help reduce wastage.
* Highlight training and development needs of ward-based assistant housekeepers to ensure compliance with legislation and high standards of food service.
* Complete monitoring and reporting forms related to catering and beverage services.
* Monitor ward maintenance and pest control request logs and ensure actions are taken as appropriate.
* Maintain a safe and tidy ward environment, working with ward staff and the facilities team to comply with trust procedures, disposal policies and waste recycling.
* Respect patients’ space, including attending to patients’ belongings.
* Ensure daily cleaning of patient areas and infection control adherence where required.
* Carry out relevant patient-related questionnaires and other monitoring tasks as agreed.
* Inform the ward manager of monitoring outcomes and agree actions where appropriate.
* Handle complaints in line with the trust complaint procedure and reduce risks to health and safety.
* Welcome and guide visitors on the ward, liaising with other staff as appropriate and report any security breaches, especially regarding patients’ property.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in catering or housekeeping preferred.
* Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
* Basic food hygiene and COSHH knowledge is desirable but not essential.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
