NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.


The shift pattern for this post consist of 37 hours per week.

Please be advised that, effective 1 April 2026, the full-time working hours for all Agenda for Change posts will be reduced to 36 hours.

Gartnavel General theatres are looking for Band 5 perioperative practitioners for our fantastic elective team.

Due to an expansion of service we are looking for enthusiastic, motivated applicants that have an interest of working in the peri-operative environment. GGH theatre suite consists of 13 theatres covering a variety of specialties including General Surgery, Brachytherapy, Oncoplastic/Breast Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedic elective/trauma and Interventional Radiology. Previous experience within the peri-operative environment, is an advantage however not essential as the department offers team support and continuing education opportunities.

South Sector Theatres undertake a Perioperative dual training programme and Multi-speciality training supported by the GGC Centre of Clinical Perioperative Excellence. You will be supported in post-registration education by the Perioperative Education Teams and will have access to training and education pertinent to the job.

As part of the multidisciplinary team you will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of a programme of care and the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients within the perioperative department. The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required. You are required to demonstrate flexibility by working within a service that runs over a five day week and includes out of hours working.

Furthermore, you will be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within NHS Greater Glasgow in order to achieve the needs of the service. As part of NHS Greater Glasgow pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current NMC/HCPC registration will be required prior to start date. You should therefore note candidates who are unable to provide confirmation of current NMC/HCPC registration, in line with projected start date for this post, may not be shortlisted for interview. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check for all posts.
