Our Die Maintenance Technicians ensure the quality and efficient tooling of the panels and parts that go into our world-class car production. Through planned maintenance and breakdown recovery they are hands-on with reactive repairs, preventative measures and exciting project work, including new model development and buy-offs.

What You’llNeed:
4 GCSE grades or equivalent (achieved or predicted)
1. Mathematics (Grade B+ or 6+)
2. English (Language or Literature) (Grade A-C or 4+)
3. Two other subjects (Grade A-C or 4+)
4. A can-do attitude, motivated to achieve in your daily work and learning
5. 16 or over at the start of your apprenticeship
6. The ability to commute to and from the Nissan Sunderland plant SR5 3NS
7. Eligibility to work in the UK. You musthave ordinarily resided in the UK & Islands for at least 3 years by Sept 2025 (proof will be requested during the selection process)
8. Please note, we operate a zero-tolerance approach to drugs and alcohol and pre-employment testing is part of our recruitment process. Any failure will result in the withdrawal of any offer and non-progression of your application.
What You’ll be Doing:
9. You will split your time between college learning and working within our world-class manufacturing plant
10. You will work across departments such as Press Tooling, Injection Moulding Tooling and Bodyshop Tooling, giving you a good opportunity to learn different processes. What’s more, you’ll gain experience working with some of the most up-to-date manufacturing equipment in the industry.
11. You’llacquire the skills and knowledge to work as a member of the team maintaining the production tooling at Nissan, including CNC machining centres for milling, turning, and grinding and welding materials in all disciplines (MIG, TIG, ARC), with breakdown recovery and planned maintenance forming your key responsibilities
12. You will develop a sound understanding of engineering drawings and will use CAD / CAM software for design and reverse engineering
13. Your emergingskills will also support the development of the current and future line-up of Nissan’s vehicles, including new model launches and the qualities processes od associated production processes
Through this blended approach, you will have the chance to achieve the following qualifications by the end of your apprenticeship:
14. Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
15. Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
16. Level 3 Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
17. HNC in Engineering
*Performance dependent. All qualifications may be subject to change.
Please Note:
The first year of the apprenticeship will be based full time at Hartlepool College. Followed by day release for the remaining 4 years of the scheme. A free bus service is currently provided between Nissan and Hartlepool College for apprentices.
