Job title : Paralegal Location : London, United Kingdom Job type : Full time / Permanent Start date : ASAP (Preferably) Salary : TBD (Negotiable dependent upon experience) ​ An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and hardworking paralegal to join a growing financial services firm, based in Marylebone Road, London. ​ Main function of the role ​ The successful candidate will provide general support the Legal, Compliance and HR functions with a broad range of duties, with a particular focus on drafting and filing company documents, advising on data protection and employment matters (both with an international element) and producing client agreements based on company templates. ​ They will also assist the Legal function in relation to work being undertaken for the business units the Legal department supports and ad hoc projects being undertaken. Minimum knowledge and experience required ​ One year’s experience working in the financial services sector with exposure to corporate governance and data protection. With the candidate expected to gain high exposure to all of the workstreams from the outset, this role may also suit a more experienced career paralegal. Educated to a degree level. Candidate profile ​ A pro-active, hard working self-starter who enjoys working independently and as part of a team. Ability to work under pressure and to handle conflicting time demands. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise effectively. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Impeccable attention to detail, coupled with the ability to apply a broader understanding of wider commercial issues and risk based approach. Strong communication skills with the ability to analyse others' points of view and persuade opposing perspectives in a constructive manner. An inquisitive mind – seeks to find answers independently before seeking input from others. Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of seniority across all business units. Confidently utilise legal research tools, such as LexisNexis and/or Practical Law. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and strong IT skills. ​ Preferred ​ Experience of working in the regulated financial services sector, undertaking paralegal work. Demonstrable interest in corporate/commercial law and/or data protection law, underpinned by a good level of knowledge of relevant rules and legislation. Confident in navigating the company law regime, with a keen enthusiasm for maintaining a high level of responsibility for company secretarial compliance. Knowledge of relevant FCA rules. Solid understanding of commercial contracts law principles. Basic grounding in anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and know your client/due diligence requirements. ​ Key tasks and responsibilities The paralegal will assist across a range of legal business areas and workstreams, including data protection, client relations, governance and company secretarial, compliance, and HR. The main responsibilities will entail: a) Maintaining company registers, drafting company resolutions, minutes and other corporate governance documents (UK, SA and BVI) and undertaking registrar filings as required. b) Responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, including handling data privacy inquiries, data breaches, DSARs, maintaining secure records, and assisting with the implementation of data protection policies and procedures. c) Reviewing, negotiating and drafting agreements with service providers, NDAs and other commercial contracts. d) Assisting with the preparation of agreements for new clients, new deals with existing clients or introducers. This may take the form of supporting sales, relationship and client service managers in their commercial negotiations, or directly engaging with client’s legal advisors to resolve technical issues. e) Ensuring that all company template documents are consistently up-to-date. f) Carrying out such legal research as may be required. g) Keeping up to date with the legal and regulatory environment and providing weekly summaries of developments relevant to the business. h) Supporting the HR function by preparing contracts, assisting in performance reviews, terminations and related tasks, conducting legal inductions for new joiners, and assisting with updates to staff handbook and other communications with staff. i) Maintaining legal work in progress records and diarising important dates. j) Dealing with ad hoc queries from the business. k) Responsibility for KYC/RFI and audit support for the business and assisting with other ad hoc administrative tasks. l) Such other tasks as may reasonably be required. ​ Application process Please complete the multiple choice questionnaire and upload your CV.
