Job Description

“It’s the reward of helping people. I like helping people and seeing the reward of keeping people out of hospital and living in their own homes.” – Rhona

As a Support Practitioner, you’ll play a key role in helping people live their best lives. Every day, you’ll make a real difference, whether you’re supporting someone with daily routines, helping them settle back home after a hospital stay, or responding to telecare alarms. It’s a role where every day you help people stay connected, independent, and supported in their own homes.

About Us

Carr Gomm is a leading social care and community development charity, supporting people across Argyll & Bute to live independently, safely, and well in their own homes. We are currently recruiting Support Practitioners for our Care at Home service in Dunoon.

Support people with their daily routines according to their individual support plan. This includes meal preparation, medication, personal care, and other practical support to maintain independence and quality of life.

Shift patterns vary depending on people’s needs, from 07:00‑14:00 and 16:00‑22:00.

All Support Practitioners support people to live well in their own homes, building trusting relationships and helping them stay connected to their community.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for people who are compassionate, reliable, and community‑minded. Full training is provided, and you’ll be supported to achieve an SVQ in Health and Social Care while you work.

Many roles involve travel across rural communities, so having a full driving licence is preferred but not essential.

You Will

* Support people with daily activities, including meals, medication, and personal care
* Build strong, trusting relationships with people and their families
* Work flexibly across different shift patterns, including days, evenings, and weekends

Contracts: Part‑time and full‑time contracts are available. If you can’t commit to set hours, we also have Relief Support Practitioner roles for greater flexibility.

Why Join Carr Gomm

You will be part of a supportive, forward‑thinking organisation that invests in its people. You will have opportunities to shape how work is done through specialist working groups and the Futures innovation programme, within an organisation that proudly holds the LGBT Charter for inclusion.

Benefits

* Anti‑social hours enhancement of up to £1,272 per annum, when undertaking waking night shifts (11pm‑7am)
* Enhanced mileage payment of 45p per mile
* 35 days holiday per year, rising to 40 days with service
* Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, and sick leave
* A Defined Contribution pension scheme, with incremental employer contributions
* Access to the Carr Gomm App, including free physiotherapy, health coaching, and counselling

We welcome applications from any candidates already eligible to work in the UK or those who can apply for a visa granting permission to work in the UK (e.g., dependent visas, ancestry, etc.) that do not require sponsorship from Carr Gomm. You will be asked to share proof of this prior to receiving any offer of employment. It is currently our policy not to offer sponsorship for prospective candidates.
