Main duties of the job
Supporting the provision of General Ophthalmology with asubspecialty interest in Oculoplastic and Acute eye service or GeneralOphthalmology or any other subspecialty which complements the department.
Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case surgery
Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hourson-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working timeregulations and safe working
On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagueson a 1:8.5 rota, currently assessed as 0.89 PA.

The Ophthalmology team at Mid Yorkshirecurrently includes 9 Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, 8 Specialty Doctorsand 3 Specialty Registrar, as well as Specialist Nurses, Optometrists andOrthoptists supported by a dedicated clinical secretariat team.
Ourservice is primarily based at the Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital inWakefield, with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to provide specialistcare and investigations. Care is also provided from our excellent Dewsbury andPontefract sites. We provide a full spectrum of secondary ophthalmic servicesincluding emergency care with a strategic aim to deliver a comprehensivemulti-disciplinary service in both primary and acute care settings through ourone purpose, one team, one trust approach. Services we provide include;cataract, glaucoma, cornea, uveitis, lid, orbital and lacrimal, paediatricophthalmology plus specialist care and treatment for adult ocular Motilitydisorders and neuro-ophthalmic disorders. We arealso part of many multi-centre clinical trials with research integral to whatwe do.
Job responsibilities
This postis offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full timeapplications will be considered, this post is also a locum post for 6 months.
Whilstthe role will be based primarily at our Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital inWakefield, we provide services at our other hospital sites; Dewsbury andDistrict Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. Most People do work fromtwo sites. The department providesSecretarial support and office accommodation with Computer and IT facilities inthe Eye Centre. The department has thesupport of Optometrists, Orthoptists, Specialist Nurses and Eye Clinic LiaisonOfficers.
The mainduties of the post will include:

1.5 Core Supporting Professional Activities will be offeredto the successful candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed inaccordance with the Trust Framework* and national Terms and Conditions ofService with additional 0.5 PA for extra roles like Lead for service etc
Examples may include formal teachingresponsibilities or departmental leadership roles
Person Specification
Experience
* Wide experience in management of Oculoplastic, Acute eye patients in outpatients, Lasers and theatre.
* Ophthalmology fellowship or equivalent experience in Oculoplastic or experience in General Ophthalmology.
* Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
Qualifications
* Medical Degree from recognised medical school
* FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent
* Fellowship in Oculoplastic or Acute eye service
* Academic Prizes

* Teaching qualification / awards
Management Skills
* Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
* Good time management.
* Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.
* Possess good organisational and personal management skills

* Awareness of the current UK Healthcare system and the need to develop services in line with current policy
GMC Registration
* Please state full GMC number.
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
