SEMH Teaching Assistant | Primary School | Kingston | £95-£115 per day | Full-Time, Monday to Friday | September 2025!

A fulfilling opportunity awaits a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant in a dynamic primary school within Kingston. Long Term Futures is partnering with an educational setting deeply invested in the holistic development of its young learners, particularly those needing additional social, emotional, and mental health support. We are seeking a proactive individual to guide and empower children in navigating their feelings and engaging positively with their learning journey.

The Opportunity: Championing Emotional Well-being

This is a significant full-time engagement within a "Good"-rated primary school in Kingston. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your contribution will be instrumental in cultivating a secure and understanding atmosphere where children can develop resilience and self-awareness. This is a stable, long-term position, offering a clear route to permanency, enabling you to build lasting relationships and become a consistent pillar of support for pupils.

You will directly contribute to creating an inclusive and nurturing environment, ensuring every child feels valued and equipped to manage their emotions and participate fully in school life.

Your Role: Supporting Growth and Positive Engagement

In this key capacity as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will encompass:

* Executing tailored support programmes, working closely with children to help them acquire effective emotional regulation strategies and positive social interactions.
* Providing dedicated one-on-one or small group assistance for pupils requiring targeted intervention, aiding them in expressing their feelings and developing adaptive coping mechanisms.
* Skillfully applying de-escalation techniques to navigate challenging moments with composure and empathy, maintaining a safe and productive learning space.
* Establishing strong, trusting connections with pupils, serving as a reliable and positive role model in their emotional development.
* Collaborating seamlessly with class teachers, the SENCo, and wider pastoral teams to ensure a unified and comprehensive approach to pupil support.
* Systematically tracking and documenting pupil progress, offering valuable insights that inform ongoing assessments and future planning.

What We Require: Essential Qualities & Expertise

To excel within this impactful role, you will possess:

* Substantial experience working with children or young people, specifically providing support for those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* A comprehensive grasp of the diverse factors influencing emotional well-being and a toolkit of effective, positive intervention methods.
* Proficiency in de-escalation; relevant certifications (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) are highly advantageous.
* Exceptional levels of patience, tenacity, and empathy when addressing complex emotional and behavioural scenarios.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, crucial for fostering rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.
* A current enhanced DBS check, or a readiness to undergo the application process.

Working With Us: Advantages & Professional Growth

Partnering with Long Term Futures and this Kingston school provides:

* Opportunities for specialised professional development, enhancing your expertise in SEMH support and pastoral care.
* A genuinely supportive and collaborative team setting, deeply invested in the well-being of every pupil.
* The assurance of consistent, long-term employment with significant potential for a permanent role.
* Direct guidance and robust support from our experienced recruitment consultants.
