Role Overview
The post holder will be a Registered Nurse who, in conjunction with the Clinical Manager, contribute to and deliver a comprehensive Primary Care Service in partnership with Mental Health and Addiction practitioners as part of an extensive multi‑disciplinary team within the unique setting of a prison environment. The post holder will be responsible for providing skilled nursing interventions, ensuring a person‑centred approach to care delivery that is safe and effective, and contributing to the continuous development of Healthcare Services.
Responsibilities
Provide assessment, evaluation and delivery of a range of interventions to manage prisoner healthcare needs, including emergency and anticipatory care, promoting wellbeing, and addressing health inequalities. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members, support continuous service improvement, and uphold patient safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
* Excellent team‑working skills and ability to work using own initiative
* Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Excellent time management skills
* Working knowledge of basic information technologies
* Ability to treat prisoners in custody with respect and dignity at all times even under conditions of duress
* Will undertake mandatory Pamova level 1 and Scottish Prison Service (SPS) training e.g. Talk to Me; Personal Protection, key and radio training
Contract Type
Fixed Term, Full time, 37 hours per week. The post is a 12‑month position. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment; the employee must already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
Location and Working Pattern
This role will be based in HMP Shotts. Applicants who are shortlisted for interview may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
