As a global leader in sustainable material handling, Kalmar makes every move count. Our Apprentice Service Engineers will learn to service and maintain our equipment, provide excellent customer service and gain a level 3 qualification.

Wage

£24,000 a year

Upon successful completion of each year of your apprenticeship your salary will increase.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Flexibility may be required including starting earlier, finishing later and working weekends.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What you'll do at work

* Learn to maintain, service, repair and inspect Kalmar and third-party equipment to a high standard.
* Learn to build strong rapport and relationships with customers, through professional behaviour and a customer-focused mind-set.
* Learn to respond to routine enquiries from customers about the technical aspects of the organisation’s products and services.
* Learn to troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve standard technical problems that arise, ensure ongoing customer satisfaction.
* Learn to perform preventative maintenance as per manufacturers’ specifications.
* Work with mentors to fault find & resolve problems in an efficient and timely manner.
* Learn to provide reports and documentation to support the maintenance activities completed.
* Work alongside other engineers and mentors on equipment and to assist with installation and commissioning as required.
* Comply with all legal and Company standards, such as Code of Conduct and QSHE practices and carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions.

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Lift truck and powered access engineering technician (level 3)


What you'll learn

Course contents

* Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards relevant to lift truck or powered access machines.
* Obtain and interpret lift truck and powered access machine technical data and repair instructions.
* Use tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment when carrying out maintenance and repairs.
* Perform preventative maintenance activities on lift truck and powered access machines.
* Perform inspections on lift truck and powered access machines in compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) regulations.
* Remove and replace mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
* Apply diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to diagnose faults on lift truck or powered access machine systems.
* Carry out functional testing and quality checks on repaired lift truck or powered access machine components and systems.
* Carry out repairs and make required adjustments.
* Record or enter information - paper based or electronic. For example, job sheets, risk assessments, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and manufacturers' documentation, work sheets, checklists.
* Check and maintain stock.
* Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
* Prepare and maintain a clean, tidy and safe working area.
* Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, in compliance with quality, safety, sustainability and environmental standards and guidance.
* Follow equality, diversity and inclusion procedures.
* Store and maintain tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment for maintenance and repairs.

Training schedule

The apprenticeship training will take place on-site at our chosen training provider's training centre in Swindon.

There will be 1 week of training every six weeks at the training provider site per year.

Accommodation and subsistence for this week away will be paid by the Company.

Apprentices will also be expected to undertake tasks through workbooks, on-the-job assessments, an online tracking system and a final end point assessment.


More training information

Our chosen training provider is F-Tec, Unit 17 Ash, Kembrey Park, Swindon, SN2 8UN.

The apprentice is structured over 3 years with Year 1 and 2 concentrating on the Fundamentals and Year 3 on Diagnostics.

At the end of the apprenticeship there will be an End Point Assessment comprising a knowledge test, practical test and professional discussion.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

* English (grade 4 or above)
* Maths (grade 4 or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

We have two roles available - one in the North West (Widnes/Runcorn area) and one in the South (Tilbury area). Candidates must live within one hour of either Widnes/Runcorn or Tilbury.

Candidates must be comfortable working at heights, due to the nature of the role (we will conduct a working at heights test) and have a full driving licence. The role can be physically demanding and will involve working outdoors.

Due to customer location requirements, apprentices must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Candidates should be willing to travel and stay away from home.
