This position is an externally-funded PDRA role supporting the NERC project “Developing paper ‘origami’ eDNA sensors for real-time public surveillance of invasive species”. The project aims to develop an easy-to-use paper-based sensor to help stakeholders and citizen scientists monitor invasive species using eDNA. The successful candidate will work closely with partners at the University of Cranfield and UKCEH and contribute to other aspects of the wider project.
What will you be doing?
You will lead field-based testing of the eDNA sensor, focusing on its robustness and comparison with current monitoring methods. Responsibilities include: (a) experimental testing of the sensor in lab and field settings, (b) collaborating with stakeholders to explore potential uses, and (c) reviewing and quantifying challenges and costs of existing methods. The role will primarily involve travel across Lincolnshire.

* Experience in field ecology; familiarity with eDNA is advantageous.
* Laboratory and field research experience.
* Strong analytical and quantitative skills (statistics, bioinformatics).
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, students, and stakeholders.
