The Role - Key ResponsibilitiesThe Interim Finance Manager will:
\t
* Provide insightful financial guidance, challenge, and reporting to senior leaders, enabling effective decision‑making.
\t
* Lead and line‑manage a small finance team, supporting development and performance.
\t
* Oversee annual budgeting, reforecasting, and full P&L, balance sheet, and cash‑flow management.
\t
* Ensure accurate and timely management accounts, variance analysis and financial risk reporting.
\t
* Manage income assurance processes, including grant claims, funding returns and commissioner invoicing.
\t
* Oversee all core finance operations, including ledgers, reconciliations, payroll oversight, cash flow, expenses and approval of business expenditure.
\t
* Maintain strong financial controls, updating policies and procedures where required.
\t
* Ensure accurate VAT accounting and compliance, including preparation of VAT returns.
\t
* Lead the annual external audit process.
\t
* Build effective relationships with auditors, funders, commissioners, HMRC, suppliers and other external partners.
\t
* Support financial modelling, tenders and funding applications.
\t
* Collaborate with HR and PMO on workforce planning and resource allocation.
\t
* Deputise for the Finance Director when required.
About You - Key Skills & ExperienceEssential:
\t
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA).
\t
* Minimum 3 years' experience in a senior finance role.
\t
* Strong technical accounting knowledge, including VAT and HMRC compliance.
\t
* Experience preparing board‑level financial papers and reports.
\t
* Demonstrated experience managing a small finance team.
\t
* Proven ownership of cash flow management and forecasting.
\t
* Experience leading year‑end processes and external audit.
\t
* Skilled at explaining complex financial information clearly to non‑finance colleagues.
\t
* Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel capability.
\t
* Experience working in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
\t
* Experience producing accurate P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements in an SME or similar environment.
\t
* Experience working with organisations funded by grants, commissioners or public bodies.
Desirable:
\t
* Experience in grants, tenders and bid applications.
\t
* Contract management exposure.
\t
* Experience using Xero.
