Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Senior Controls Engineer with strong Siemens PLC programming experience to take a lead role in the design and delivery of bespoke automation systems. This is a hybrid position, typically 12 days per week on site in Nottingham, offering the flexibility to work from home for the remainder of the week. The Role Senior Controls Engineer As a Senior Controls Engineer, youll take full ownership of control system design, PLC programming, and commissioning for a range of special purpose machinery projects. Youll work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions using Siemens PLCs (S7 / TIA Portal), HMI design, and motion control. Key Responsibilities Design and develop control systems for automation and special purpose machinery. Program, test, and commission Siemens PLCs (S7 / TIA Portal) and HMI systems. Create and maintain electrical control schematics and technical documentation. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate automation systems. Lead and manage automation projects through the full lifecycle from concept to commissioning. Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and troubleshooting support. Skills & Experience Required Proven background as a Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, or Electrical Design Engineer. Hands-on experience with Siemens PLC programming (S7 / TIA Portal essential). Knowledge of HMI development, motion control, and industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Profibus). Experience with special purpose machinery or industrial automation projects. Strong problem-solving and project management skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Desirable Skills Experience with robotics, servo drives, or safety PLCs. Exposure to other PLC platforms (Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron).
