About Greensville Trust
Greensville Trust is a UK registered charity dedicated to:
* advance Islam;
* advance education;
* prevent or relieve poverty or financial hardship;
* provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation, with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the general public and in particular the Muslim community; and
* to further such other charitable purposes as the trustees shall from time to time determine.
The Trust is overseen by a Board of Trustees who share collective responsibility for its governance, strategy and compliance.
Purpose of the Role
Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Greensville Trust, ensuring that the charity is well-managed, financially sustainable, and operates in line with its charitable objectives, values, and legal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
As a trustee, you will:
Governance & Strategy
* Ensure the charity carries out its purposes for the public benefit.
* Contribute actively to setting the charity's strategic direction, goals, and policies.
* Monitor performance and evaluate the impact of the charity's activities.
Legal & Compliance
* Ensure the charity complies with its governing document, charity law, and other relevant legislation/regulation.
* Safeguard the charity's good name and values.
* Act with integrity and avoid conflicts of interest.
Financial Stewardship
* Ensure the charity's financial stability and accountability.
* Oversee the proper investment of funds and ensure resources are used responsibly.
* Approve the annual budget and accounts.
Risk & Safeguarding
* Identify and manage key risks to the charity, including safeguarding risks.
* Ensure policies and procedures are in place and followed.
People & Culture
* Support and hold the Chief Executive and staff to account.
* Ensure the charity fosters an inclusive and respectful environment, reflecting Islamic ethics and wider community values.
Commitment
* Attend at least 6 trustee meetings per year (usually bi-monthly/quarterly) and any relevant sub-committee meetings.
* Devote sufficient time to prepare for meetings, review papers, and stay informed about the charity's activities.
* Represent the charity externally as required.
Person Specification
Essential qualities:
* Commitment to the aims, ethos, and values of Greensville Trust.
* Integrity, objectivity, and sound independent judgement.
* Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as part of a diverse board.
* Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.
Desirable qualities:
* Skills or experience in one or more of the following areas: finance, law, education, safeguarding, fundraising, HR, governance, risk management, or charity leadership.
* Experience serving on a board or in a leadership role.
* Strong connections with the wider Muslim community and/or charitable sector.
