Job Title: Wine Development Manager
Reports to: Sales Manager
Covering: Manchester
Main Duties
The Wine Development Managers at LWC are responsible for developing the wine category within their depot. As local ambassadors for the wine range, they should have a positive attitude towards on-trade wine sales and combine commerciality with excellent wine knowledge. WDMs are field-based, expected to spend about 15 days a month working in the trade in their area, supporting account managers and developing business independently. Working hours are 40 hours per week, with some outside regular hours to support customers.
Main Responsibilities
• New Business
* Opening new wine accounts alongside Account Managers.
* Maintaining and updating a prospect list.
• Existing Business
* Collaborating with Account Managers to develop and retain existing customers.
* Managing the top 50 wine accounts in their region.
* Conducting semi-annual wine reviews with top accounts; visiting the top 20 once a quarter.
* Developing Wine Development Plans for Key Accounts as agreed.
• Category Management
* Building market-trend aligned wine lists.
* Maximising profitability through own brand opportunities.
* Presenting wine slots at monthly depot meetings.
* Conducting quarterly reviews with Account Managers.
* Training and educating Account Managers, organising tastings, liaising with WSET providers, and running courses at regional depots.
* Providing local bespoke customer training, including for national accounts.
* Managing samples and sample budgets.
* Collaborating with Depot Managers, Stock Controllers, Telesales, and the Wine Team.
* Owning regional wine tastings and events.
* Supporting wine business in Key and National accounts, with occasional travel to Manchester head office.
• Administration
* Completing weekly call logs and reporting to Line Manager.
* Attending monthly and quarterly meetings to discuss sales and depot performance.
* Preparing for management and 1:1 meetings.
* Assisting in depot wine stock management.
Knowledge and Experience
* Commercial experience in selling wine, preferably on-trade.
* Proven sales record and growth target achievement.
* Knowledge of wine trade and current trends.
* WSET Level 3 preferred.
